we are moved and [mostly] unpacked. the move wasn't bad at all -- ian, sashi, kevin, and lee moved everything in about 4 hours. best part: u-haul rental + gas = $66. we moved an entire household with some men-force and $66. i'm pretty proud of us for saving a few hundred dollars on movers.

now the only things left to do are organizing the hallway closet, sorting through some random odds & ends, and hanging up the curtain that'll be our bedroom door. we already bought all the hardware, the fabric, and are waiting for erica to put her sewing machine to good use. i can't wait. privacy! sex!

sprout is finally back home after nearly a week with my parentals. i'd volunteer myself for a lobotomy if i had to spend a week with my psychomom. when they dropped her off yesterday poor kid was wearing a onesie, a turtleneck, a sweater, a warm winter coat, cotton tights, jeans, fur-lined booties, a hat, and the jacket hood inside a 60 degree car. she was covered in sweat, her hair soaking wet. my mother also suggested i don't take her outside because it's 20 degrees. not -20, but 20. yea. ok.

i'm gonna make us israeli couscous with shallots and raisins for lunch, then sprout will nap while i watch the new episode of the l word. this might sound like a dull afternoon but there's nothing i'd rather do.

homework can wait.

last night ian and i cleared out our closets and ended up with 7 large bags of clothing for me to take to salvation army today. there are three things i can't force myself to get rid off despite knowing that i'll probably never wear them again -- a pair of steel-toe burgundy grinders, a reversible burgundy faux-fur coat, and a cow print trench coat.

i hate feeling attached to "stuff".

i'm making progress. one more wall and tons of detailing to go. i'll be here all day.

regardless of its simplicity, or maybe because of it, "in the aeroplane over the sea" is one of the most brilliant indie albums ever recorded. if loving jeff magnum is wrong, i don't want to be right.

we will take off our clothes/and they'll be placing fingers through the notches in your spine/and when all is breaking everything that you could keep inside/now your eyes ain't moving now/they just lay there in their clouds

i want a turkey sandwich and a brooklyn lager.

last weekend we borrowed a friend's truck and with the help of another couple of friends we moved half our belongings to the new place. ian, agnes, sashi, and i painted most of the new apartment in one day. i'll be doing the living room alone tomorrow.

it feels like despite moving a good portion of our crap, we are still living among boxes, larger boxes, more boxes, vacant bookshelves, dirty comforters, and dust bunnies. every table surface is covered with packing tape and random odds & ends. my OCD is raging.

it's bookrush for college textbook sellers -- one of the two times a year when ian has to work 12 hours days instead of 10-3. i barely see him and he doesn't have time during the week to help with the move. to juggle classes, packing, cleaning and painting the new apartment i have to keep dropping eloise off at my parents. she doesn't sleep well there and with all the shuffling back and forth it takes her a bit of time to adjust to being back home.

my father dropped her off last night after i came home from school. we woke up, ate breakfast, watched some signing time, took a bath together, and went to a music together class with my neighbor and her daughter. some semblance of a routine. now i'm packing elly's bag and dropping her off at my parent's before tonight's class. she'll be staying with them until monday morning. by then, we'll be moved and [mostly] unpacked.

i miss my kid, my ian, and the comfort of our home.
counting down the days...

last week we signed a 2 year lease on our new place.

it's the 2nd floor of a private house, 4 blocks down from where we are currently residing. i really would have liked to get out of this neighborhood, however - a. it's one of the few remaining brooklyn neighborhoods that's safe and affordable, b. it's easy for me to get to school from here and i don't want to deal with transferring, and c. elly didn't get a spot in CSI daycare [waiting list]. this is the best location for easy babysitting access for family/friends.

i'm really uncomfortable with planning ahead, but the "plan" is to stay at the new place for 4 years. at that point our relocation options will open up greatly as we'll have 2 incomes to work with.

details )

there's so much to do in the next few weeks.
